This just in from the KY Commission on Human Rights:
The Kentucky Commission on Human Rights is pleased to announce its 10th Annual Kentucky Hispanic, Immigrant and Refugee Networking Summit. The commission holds the event to celebrate U.S. Hispanic Heritage Month.
The free-to-the-public summit will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (Eastern Daylight Time) on Thursday, October 8, at the Shelby County Extension Office located at 1117 Frankfort Rd., in Shelbyville, Ky., 40065. Please make reservations in advance by telephoning Juan Peña at 502.566.9955, or emailing him at [email protected]. Sign-in on the morning of the event will begin at 9 a.m.
The event is designed to educate interested members of the public and to help people who work for immigrant and refugee centers, non-profit groups, colleges, universities, and people interested in working with immigrant Kentuckians. The summit presents an opportunity to learn about the services available to Kentuckians of other national origins and to learn about the needs of immigrant communities, residents, refugees, and citizens. The event can also be helpful to immigrant Kentuckians who need to learn more about services and opportunities available to them.
Opening remarks will be made by Kentucky Commission on Human Rights Executive Director John J. Johnson.
Topics at the summit will include housing, employment, education, business and more. Speakers include directors from Latino Community centers, Hispanic educators and entrepreneurs, Kentucky refugee agencies, members of the Hispanic media, and representatives from federal, state and local government agencies.
Cosponsors of the event include the University of Kentucky, Kentucky State University, Lexington Fair Housing Council, and the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture. The Kentucky Commission on Human Rights has produced the statewide summit since 2005. National Hispanic Heritage Month is annually recognized from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15.
